Amazon's botched listing makes a mess
According to our sources in Powercolor, the listing of a Powercolor HD 4770 AGP card is a simple mistake made by Amazon, and Powercolor has no plans for such card, at least not in near future. We already wrote that Powercolor is thinking of doing an HD 4600 series for AGP, but that is the only thing currently planned.
Amazon made a quite a fuss today after Powercolor's HD 4770 AGP card show up at its site. Unfortunately, numerous tech sites rushed to carry the news, and obviously forgot to contact Powercolor in the process. Obviously, the company was more than happy to clear up the mess caused by someone at Amazon.
Also, it was pretty strange to see a planned AGP card, as partners are practically fighting to get some extra GPUs for due to a shortage caused by healthy demand for the new card. The HD 4770 is the first 40nm desktop card, and this baby works like a charm, and its currently the best budget cards in the sub-$99 price segment.
So, the listing at Amazon is a mistake, and it is probably a plain PCI-Express card and we are sure that they will fix it soon. Those who wanted to see this card will be a bit disappointed but they can hope that Powercolor will launch its AGP 4600 series soon. (I'm waiting for a VLB version of the GT300. sub.ed.)
