Thank you for your update on this seemingly intriguing question, especially
on the 6-pin power connector part. But, would you inform your company to
update your web page,
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9800_gtx_plus_us.html, to
reflect that one 6-pin power connector is also a valid setup. Also, I still
have some doubts on the 9800 GTX+ spec sheet with regard to the Maximum
Graphics Card Power rated 141W. Some benchmark test sites showed 9800GTX+
can use up to 260 Watt, but I am not sure if it is referring to GPU's power
consumption or overall's. Let's review some numbers first. One 12V rail of a
525W power supply can provide up to 288W(12V/24A), one 12V rail of a 425W or
450W PSU can provide up to 264W(12V/22A), and one 12V rail of 385W PSU can
provide up to 240W(12V/20A). If the the Maximum Graphics Card Power for
9800GTX+ is 141W as advertised on nVidia's web page, then one 12V rail of
the 385W PSU should be able to provide enough juice even for the overclocked
9800GTX+, isn't it? Why 450W PSU is the minimum requirement for 9800GTX+ in
the spec sheet? Also, is the 141W good for both A2 and B1 core 9800GTX+?
Would you elaborate more on the difference between the A2 and the B1 cores?
Are they both 55nm? If they are, can they both just be connected with one
6-pin 12V/24A power rail of a 525W PSU even if there are two 6-pin
connectors on the GPU? How to identify the proper edition of GPU core? Some
users found that different versions of GPU-Z can yield different results.
For example, GPU-Z 0.2.8 read one 9800GTX+ as A2/65nm while GPU-Z 0.3.1 read
the same GPU as A2/55nm. I even heard, not confirmed, that one user found a
B1 core 9800GTX+ can be recognized as A2 core. Can you tell me which tool
can be used for the most accurate examination result? So that my discussion
regarding nVidia 9800GTX+ GPUs
