I am planning to run SAS Raid 0 and 3 WD 500GB SATA hard drive on my new computer. My SAS card is Dell PERC5i which can also control SATA hard drives. The 3 WD 500GB SATA hard drives are only for data storage and therefore is not running raid. Would you recommand me running the SATA hard drive through the SAS card or through the motherboard?

Base on your condition, i thought taht the SAS Crad is the best with you.
in my opinion, if the controller chip set on the board, it will share some resource.

what type of "resource" will using the sata on board use up?

you can monitor the windows management.
some program will occupy the cpu and ram
therefore, someone like to use SCSI to control some device.

I don't think so, I prefer onboard controller.
