At the time of some research on the site of INTEL, we fell by chance on a presentation made in December 2004 to financial analysts by the pope process from INTEL, the great Bohr Mark. Mainly intended to explain the process 65nm with the profane shareholders, this pdf, which one can find here, comprises a small surprise on page 25. Indeed, this one is entitled "65 Nm Microprocessor Prototypes Fabricated" and shows the photograph of two dies, a CPU equipped with a single core and a CPU Bi-core, all two engraved in 65 Nm. The Processor of right-hand side is already known since it acts of Yonah whose core was already shown of very near at the time of the IDF. However, no processor engraved in 65 Nm and equipped with only one core was still presented. According to any probability, the die which one sees on the photograph of left is neither more, nor less than the processor known under the name of code of "Cedar Mill", which will succeed Prescott, and will leave in 2006. On the photograph, one clearly sees the two units of executions typical of the core Prescott and a L2 mask of 2 Mb

Even if the photograph is not good quality, we wanted to know some more about this die. With this intention, we recadré a die of Prescott, in 90 Nm, which we superimposed on the die CPU presented per Mark Bohr. After some effects, we obtained this animation:

As it is seen, the core presented here is very close (and it is little to say) to a die shrink of current the core Prescott. Many the blocks of transistors are identical and it east appears obvious that, if this processor is well Cedar Mill, that it will be much closer to Prescott than Prescott was it of Northwood. At all events, if INTEL activates all the functionalities of the core Prescott, no one cannot estimate the profit in performances yet. However, some murmur that Tejas would be back, simply famous in Cedar Mill...

INTEL的製程能力真的不能忽視......要是AMD沒跟IBM合作 我看真的就掛了......
