With the multimedia capabilities of the Palm we can play DVD and videos on Palm Pre 3.1-inch touch screen, but before transfer the video to Palm Pre we have to convert the DVD and video to the right format.
Palm Pre supported media formats:
Audio Formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+, AMR, QCELP, WAV;
Video Formats: MPEG-4, H.263, H.264;
This tutorial will guide you through the entire process on how to convert DVD to Palm Pre, Palm Centro, Palm Treo. We took the copy of Pixar's "A Bug's Life" and converted the DVD for use on the Palm Pre. The processing time depends on your computer's processor and the length of your DVD. "A Bug's Life" is 1 hour and 34 minutes. On my computer, the entire process took roughly 30 minutes from start to finish. Since the Palm Pre supports iTunes, we were able add the converted video to iTunes and then sync with the Pre. And this guide work for all series of Palm including Palm Pre, Palm Centro, Palm Treo, etc.
1. Download Aimersoft DVD Ripper, install and run it on your PC.
This DVD Ripper can help you rip DVD and convert video from AVI, MPEG, WMV, MOV, MKV, ASF, DVR-MS, RM to Palm Pre, Palm Centro, Palm Treo Pro and Palm Pilot.
2. Insert a DVD movie disc in the DVD-ROM. Then load the DVD movies to the DVD Ripper. Here we can load three kinds of DVD's.
a. DVD disc, Insert your DVD into your computer CD-Rom, click 'Load DVD' to import it.
b. DVD ISO image, you can amount your ISO files in the daemon tools and then click 'Load ISO file' to import it. No other DVD Converter can convert ISO file except this one.
c. DVD folder, sometimes you may store the DVD folder in your hard drive, it contains the 'Video_TS' and 'Audio_TS' folders. You can load it by clicking the 'load DVD folders'.
3. Output settings
After you load DVD into the software, click the Profile drop-down list to select 'Palm Pre Video MPEG-4 (*.mp4)' as output format.
Resolution
Different devices have different screen resolutions. For example, Treo 600 has a 160x160 screen, so you need to choose one of the 160x... resolutions from the list. Most palm devices have 320x320 or 480x320 screen resolutions. Larger resolutions require more space in your memory card. You may choose any resolution that is smaller than the screen. Resolution of 480x320 is not recommended to use, We recommend to use 464x272 instead.
4. Convert
Just click “start” to begin the conversion.
